A wickedly funny novel set in Ireland. Eponymous heroine Lucy Spoon wakes up one morning to rain pouring through the roof and the sight and sound of her husband snoring like a Harley Davidson. She jumps in the van and takes off. Meanwhile, Dubliner Jodie McDeal discovers that her soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend, drug-dealing Rogan Hogan, has cancelled all her credit cards and hidden two kilos of smack in her vanity case.
On the run from their psychotic other halves, Jodie and Lucy meet in a transport cafe south of Dublin and together they embark on a high-octane chase to save their skins, pursued by the violent cohorts of Jodie's disgruntled ex.
A highly entertaining story with thriller ingredients, this has a fast, exciting plot with an idiosyncratic Irish wit. The female characters bristle with energy and the villains - incompetent bunglers and violent drug-dealers - get their just desserts.
