The Golden Age of Fashion Illustration is a visual celebration of fashion image making and illustration from the Renaissance to the end of the Art Deco period, prior to the Second World War, when studio photography became predominant in the promotion of new fashionable styles.
It will show fashion illustration as an art form of allure and beauty, as captured by talented image-makers and printed in publications spanning centuries. Featuring over 400 seldom seen illustrations, it will be a beautiful and comprehensive document of the talent and artistry that went into the design and making of European fashion images from the second half of the 16th century to the first half of the 20th century â?? a four hundred year period considered to be the golden age of fashion illustration.
Julian Robinson worked as a fashion designer, lecturer and author (his books, now OP, appear in the further reading sections of many recent fashion books, including 100 Years of Fashion Illustration and Masters of Fashion Illustration). The images would be sourced from his archive, which consists of over 10,000 images, so the book would be a definitive and authoritative edition.
