A thrilling Read
Plot Summary:
When Georgia is stood up on a first date with a man she has connected with via a dating site, never did she think that on the same night she would meet the man of her dreams. After getting her life back on track after a few years of some personal struggles, Luke comes into her life at the right time. Charismatic, charming, funny and attractive, Luke is everything that Georgia could want in a partner, and after everything she has gone through, Luke most importantly makes her feel safe.
But then there is Cadence, Luke’s ex girlfriend, and she does not want to let Luke go, which is also made worse by Luke still sharing a flat with her. At first Georgia can sympathise with Cadence. Knowing how wonderful Luke is, her heart goes out to Cadence, but when she starts to become a nuisance texting Luke all of the time trying to get him back, her patience starts to wear thin. Then Cadence steps it up a notch and her obsession becomes next level, leaving threatening notes for Georgia and stalking her which makes Georgia afraid for her life, and she now wonders how far Cadence is willing to go to get her out of Luke’s life!
Characters:
There are a few characters in this one but I will just touch on the main ones. I really liked Georgia’s character. She has been through a lot in her past and you were rooting for her throughout. I also like how she was sensitive to Cadence at the start over her loss of Luke until Cadence started to make her fearful.
Luke, the perfect man is just who Georgia needs to move on from a painful past. I did have some reservations though, towards his treatment of Cadence but could also understand his frustrations with her when things started to get out of hand.
In saying that, I did feel sympathy towards Cadence and her struggle to let Luke go. Everyone handles breakup’s differently but you could just feel her pain and her desperate need to hang onto to Luke.
Setting:
I loved the main setting of the book in Sydney Australia. I read a lot of books set in the UK and the US, but being an Aussie girl myself it is nice to read a book where you know of the places that an author refers too.
Pace:
This is definitely a fast paced suspenseful book. The reader is thrown in straight away with two paragraphs that are so chilling you know that you are going to be taken on a wild ride. They set up the tone of the book perfectly. After reading them, I got goosebumps and I knew that I was going to love this book and I am happy to say I was not disappointed.
Nicola has mastered the “just give the reader a little bit” to keep you wanting more and in suspense right up until the end.
Ending:
WOW, a perfect ending with a twist which is just how I love my books to be. About half way through I pretty much figured out how the story was going to go, but it did not ruin the story or the enjoyment of it for me and there was still some surprises that caught me off guard.
Authors Style:
I loved Nicolas writing style and her ability to keep the reader hooked and enthralled throughout. One more chapter I kept telling myself but one chapter turned into another then another so that I was reading well into the night. It is an addictive read so be prepared for that. You won’t be able to put it down. I liked that it had just the right mixture of light-hearted moments to off set the darker side of the story.
This is the first book I have read from Nicola. She is a fantastic storyteller and I look forward to reading more books from her.
Final Thoughts:
This book is fantastic and has it all. Love, betrayal, secrets, revenge, and a jaw dropping twist. These are the perfect ingredients to make a story in the suspense genre great. If you also love these things in a story, then this book is definitely for you.
