It all started with Ernie Ecob, the union official who said that women who wanted to become shearers were only interested in sex. Fifteen years later the annual Ernie Awards for Australian men behaving truly badly (including The Warnie for Sport and the Clinton for Repeat Offenders) remains as hotly contested as ever.
Here for the first time is the complete list of the awards' most dishonourable mentions. Who could forget Eddie McGuire wanting to bone newsreader Jessica Rowe or Senator Bill Heffernan's comments (twice!) on Julia Gillard remaining deliberately barren? And what about serial offender Ray Hadley who said of a recent photo of Germaine Greer, 'I bet she's now sorry she burnt her bra all those years ago'. Or Shane Warne who claimed, 'If it had stayed private, it wouldn't have been a mistake'.
