Set during the 1970s in suburban Ontario, 'The Electrical Field' evokes a bleak and forbidding landscape dominated by the pylons and cables of an electrical field. The community that lives beneath these modern giants is rocked by a multiple murder, a Japanese woman and her lover are found shot to death in their trysting place.
The action is seen through the eyes of Asako Saito, a seemingly ordinary, very lonely woman who has never married and spent her life looking after her bed-ridden father and younger brother. As the novel progresses, it slowly reveals all those implicated in the murder and exposes the truth behind stories that haunt the claustrophic little society.
