With four generations of police officers in his family, Andy Jennings was born to be a detective. So when he stepped through the doors of the CID in 2001, at the age of 24, he was fit to burst with pride. Andy quickly put his photographic memory and natural detective skills to good use. He arrested 500 suspects for murder, robbery, rape, burglary, drug trafficking and vicious assaults in a career peppered with commendations from chief constables, judges and even the chief of a foreign fire and rescue service. Andy was eventually recruited into a top-secret unit where he instigated an infiltration into one of the world's most dangerous motorcycle gangs. Andy and the team not only put away the gang leader but also uncovered police corruption, earning him a price on his head from both organised criminal gangs and cops. When Andy returned to the 'real world' with his wife and two-year-old son, something was very wrong. He asked time and again for help but his bosses simply told him to 'take it easy'. His post-traumatic stress disorder went undiagnosed, leading to a series of explosive incidents that cost Andy everything he loved. As well as telling his own story, Andy describes what everyday life is really like in the CID, from the twisted humour and the boozing, drug-taking officers to corruption and cover-ups at every level, from the officers on the front line to a certain chief constable. IThe Crime Factory/I is an adrenalin-fuelled, shocking, unforgettable, sometimes hilarious and often despairing account, one that the higher-ups will be dreading.
