A True Story.
In the spring of 1939 Pamela Kirrage, headstrong and beautiful, met Donald Hill, a handsome RAF pilot. But like many couples, their plans for marriage had to be postponed with the onset of the war with Germany. Hill was posted to Hong Kong, and sensing that he was caught up in the sweep of great events, he began a diary, using a secret code which transformed words into numbers.
The man who returned from war had changed dramatically. He was tortured by savage flashbacks from his time in the prisoner of war camp and had to be hospitalised. It was then that Pamela turned to the school book with its secret code, hoping that somewhere within the lines of figures she would discover the key to understanding the man she loved. Eventually, she found a mathematician who was able to decode the diary and reveal its secrets.
