When six-year-old David's father died on Christmas Eve, David not only lost a parent - he lost Christmas, too. No more merry images of Santa Claus coming down the chimney to leave him a load of gifts, or of Dad helping him pick out the Christmas tree.
But little does David know that his father will be coming to visit at some key points in his growing up: his mother's remarriage, the death of his elderly friend, Mr. Paul, and the first Christmas his kid brother, Samuel, really wants to celebrate. Each time he visits, Dad is a little chubbier, his beard is a little fuller - and grayer, and his laugh is deeper and throatier. David may think he hates Christmas, but is the deceased Steven Connors really Santa Claus?
