A happy series of accidents starting with a doughnut-laden escape takes Josh Kilmer-Purcell and his partner, Brent, to the doorstep of the magnificent (and fabulously "For Sale") Beekman Mansion. One hour and one tour later, they have transformed from uptight urbanites into the 200-year-old mansion-owning Beekman Boys, a.k.a. the Fag Farmers.
A full-time New Yorker approaching middle age with a successful career in advertising, Josh is suddenly faced with a new life and identity as he and Brent make a go of weekend farming. Their new life comes with an eclectic cast of characters--the roosters who sound like a wedding cover band, Bubby the bionic cat, and a herd of sixty goats brought onto the farm by their new gay caretaker, Farmer John--as well as an accidental thriving handmade goat's milk soap business and their own Beekman brand. Amidst this craziness life starts to take on a different rhythm. Manure and mud replace subway grime, allowing Josh to reconnect with the earthiness of his childhood and plumb new depths of love and commitment--and murderous rage.
THE BUCOLIC PLAGUE takes the warm, funny, and accessible voice of I AM NOT MYSELF THESE DAYS and shows what happens when two middle-aged New Yorkers (one, an ex-drag queen) do the unthinkable: start over, have a herd of kids (the four-legged kind), and get a little dirty.
