When Jude found the body of a young woman, it changed her life for ever. With only a mermaid charm bracelet and a Mermaid of Brighton tattoo to identify her, she was named The Brighton Mermaid and added to the city's list of unidentified decedents.

Twenty-five years later, Jude has dedicated most of her life to helping people piece together their pasts by using DNA tests. And now that she can afford to do it full time, she is determined to finally solve the mystery of The Brighton Mermaid.

But as she delves deeper into the case, dangerous things start to happen and when her home is completely destroyed, Jude is forced to confront that there is something much bigger at play...

Maya wishes that her sister Jude would settle down and leave all the nonsense about The Brighton Mermaid in the past where it belongs. In fact, Maya hates everything to do with the case because it practically destroyed her family. Now, as she finds herself in a struggling marriage with children to raise, Maya's constant battle with anxiety is beginning to take its toll. So when Jude moves in after she loses her home, Maya's already fragile balance is shattered.
