Major General Sir Roy Redgrave has enjoyed an unusual, some might say eccentric life. Born into the same family as the well known actors, he was brought up in Romania as part of a thriving international community before he joined the British Army and advanced to high rank. >>Following on from the success of his memoir Balkan Blue, the author has pulled together a superb pot pourri of anecdotes covering his family, his military career and post-retirement travels and experiences. Readers will delight in the scope of this book that ranges widely from aristocratic life in feudal Romania to the dangers and intrigue of the Cold War; from the charm of French rural life to Franz Josef Land and encounters with polar bears, walrus and seals. We travel with this intrepid man from Kathmandu to Lhasa where sitting round a smokey yak dung fire he met impoverished Tibetans whose friendliness made the discomfort of primitive living at such altitudes disappear.>> Thanks to Roy's keen eye, gift for story telling and delightful sense of humour, The Adventures of Colonel Daffodil will appeal widely. Certainly those who enjoyed Balkan Blue can be confident that there will be plenty of fresh surprises and light-hearted interludes not usually expected from a senior general's pen! THE AUTHOR: Major General Sir Roy Redgrave KBE, MC was born in 1925 in the Athene Palace Hotel, Bucharest. He spent his childhood in Romania, commuting to Sherborne School on the Orient Express. To avoid conscription into the coal mines, he volunteered to join the Blues as a trooper before being commissioned.>> During his thirty-seven year career, he commanded, in addition to Berlin and Hong Kong, the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment (ceremonial), the Royal Horse Guards (armoured cars) and was Commandant of the Royal Armoured Corps Centre, Bovington. >> Subsequently he was Chairman of the Hammersmith and Fulham Health Authority and Director General of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust. He travels widely and regularly leads tours world-wide, pursuing his deep interest in native peoples, wildlife and history. He lives with his wife, Valerie, in Chelsea. some b/w photographs
