Bamforth Co was founded in the late 19th century and by the end of World War I, more than 20 million postcards were being produced each year selling all over the world. Bamforth quickly became the world's largest publisher of saucy, comic postcards, with captions and images to suit all ages. Always tottering on the brink of good taste and sometimes falling over it, the saucy captions and comical illustrations have really stood the test of time. The staple characters were extremely fat ladies accompanied by small, ineffectual and hen-pecked husbands. Thin, unattractive girls looking in vain for a boy, entire families, courting couples and men resting from work. The picture said it all, and the cards struck a chord. "That's the Way to Do It!" contains a great selection of some of the very best. The success of Bamforth has been reflected by the many licensors who have signed up to produce a wide range of products including bookmarks, calendars, coasters, mousemats, novelty kitchen items, t-shirts, mugs, travel items and gifts, greeting cards and, of course, the postcards.
