Joshua Trimble loves his ferrets!
Josh's simple life is turned upside down when has favourite ferret, Bucks, attacks his nose. The pain and scab is bad enough but the reaction from Looney Mooney, the school bully, is much worse!
Mooney challenges Josh to a ferret race, with the winner keeping the other's ferret. Lucky for Josh, his grandfather has come to stay, because Josh knows nothing about ferret racing - but Gramps does - and they only have seven days to transform Bucks into the speediest ferret in town.
Then Gramps has a stroke, his other ferret is close to death and Bucks gives birth to eight kits the night before the race!
The infamous Ferret Boy learns about himself as he deals with the troubles and triumphs incurred on the rocky road to the championships.
