Central to 'Swimming With Jellyfish' is Lal, who with her husband Davey lives in the small town of Pocket Head. Among a rich canvas of characters, one person stands out, even though she never makes an appearance - Lal's mother. The mother who one day disappeared, leaving Lal and her father equally devastated, though in their own separate ways.
Life goes on as Lal gets involved in the Pocket Head Historical Society and becomes infatuated with the society's president and ex-football star, Bim Audette. As Lal uncovers Bim's murky past, she is forced to face the questions her mother has left behind - why she left; did she leave with someone; is she alive or dead. And then there is the oysterman who, in the jumble of his ancient beach shed, seems to hold the answers to the secrets.
