Read by Joss Ackland.
A ship carrying emigrants to America founders as a storm lashes the coast of England. The only survivor is Yanko, who speaks no English and is treated like a stray animal by the villagers of Colebrook. Only two people treat him as a human being: the doctor, and Amy foster, a young woman who also feels herself to be an outsider.
As the relationship between Yanko and Amy deepens, so does the animosity of the villagers towards this strange, charismatic man who was swept from the sea . . .
This audio includes not only Conrad's powerful story 'Amy Foster', now filmed as 'Swept From The Sea', but also a selection of Conrad's other short fiction: 'Prince Roman', 'The Idiots' and 'Laughing Anne'.
