A Dark Fairytale
Helena lives in the Scottish borders with her uncle, growing up with secrets in her past and only three enigmatic letters for guidance. Then she meets Dominic, and embarks upon their affair with all the hunger, anxiety and intensity of first love. Amid cheerful student squalor in Dominic's Cromwell Street flat in Edinburgh, Helena is so absorbed in her own sexual and emotional discoveries that she fails to notice she is herself the focus of someone else's dark fantasies.
Adam awaits in a bleak Border town nearby. He watches and he writes. Firmly committed to hardening himself against all emotion, skilled at inflicting his pain on others, Adam is inspired by a macabre mix of artists from Fred West to Francis Bacon. He weaves his works of art, of alchemy, around Helena and Dominic, giving them starring roles in his seven sadistic film scripts and artworks. Love, Adam-style. He looks, he touches, and his films turn into fact.
The dreams of these three people clash to create a very real nightmare world inside a vortex of violence. Can Helena emerge a survivor - wild, safe and strong?
