'It was so pitiful to see. Now and then we'd hear the screaming Stukas diving on these poor, defenceless souls, like eagles on their prey. The sky would be black with them. And they'd send the refugees diving into ditches or under wagons. Why, oh, why did they have to gun down old men, women and children?'
War brings out the worst in some people, and the best in others. It's spring 1940 in occupied France when Marie and her mother find themselves looking after two injured soldiers. But one is English and the other is German, and they are sworn enemies. The two patients must not find out about each other. Will the compassion and understanding of one girl and her mother be enough to keep the peace?
