Cape Town's District Six is a lively community of people from many different ethnic backgrounds and it's a wonderful place to live. For thirteen-year-old Siesie Ngaba, it has always been home. But all that is about to change.
It's 1966, the time of apartheid in South Africa, and the Group Areas Act will turn District Six into a whites-only area. Whole families are being forced to move to segregated zones, according to the colour of their skin. Siesie's father is Xhosa and her mother is Cape Coloured. How can Siesie and her family stay together when the authorities are determined to tear them apart?
'Survivors' is a unique collection of fictional stories about young people caught up in real-life conflicts and disasters. Through their eyes we experience the day-to-day hardships and dangers of living through troubled times.
