The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XII was mainly to work out the bugs in the new Griffon engine, this is the first full history of this initial Griffon engined Spitfire variant, and includes the list of all the claims, the losses and other appendices. Only 100 were built during World War II and used in combat by just two squadron, 41 and 91. However, the success of this variant was satisfactory enough to open a new chapter of the Griffon-engined Spitfires, including the successful Mk XIV and Mk XII. With many of the illustrations being published for the first time, this is a unique addition to Spitfire enthusiast collections everywhere. 39 b/w photos
