Together the four children set off on horseback on a dangerous quest to save their parents and the Queen and Prince Caspar - and to find the magical gems of the Royal Sun Sword, which have been hidden, leaving the land of Tiregian powerless.
The journey is fraught with dangers - an Octamon sea monster, the loathsome creatures lurking under the City of Tira and the Sedah invaders themselves. The most dangerous of all is the sinister Sedah tracker - the Sniffer, who is close on their trail.
Along the way, there are puzzles, riddles and prophecies to be solved. Can the four friends find the Sun Gem in time? Can they outwit the tenacious Sniffer and Lord Lazlac? And can they solve the code to find the clue to the location of the Moon Pearl?
