The story of the most successful submarine to sail out of Malta, with 25 kills to its name. Submarine Upholder tells the story of His Majesty's Submarine Upholder, ordered just days after war started. She was to serve with the 10th Submarine Flotilla based out of Malta and carried, as commander David Wanklyn, who earned a VC while aboard her for his daring deeds in sinking 2 destroyers, 3 submarines, 3 transports, 10 supply ships, 2 tankers and 1 trawler, totaling 128,353 tons. Upholder sailed out of Grand Harbour in Valetta, Malta, for the last time in April 1942 and simply disappeared. Various theories abound to her disappearance but it is likely she was lost near to Tripoli, after German planes reported sinking a submarine in the area.
