Nadia Sawalha's passion for all things foody began a long time ago. Being brought up in an Anglo-Arab home taught her, from an early age, the importance of feeding your family fabulous food. The mantra was 'good food, cooked with love, feeds the soul as well as the body'. Each weekend brought huge family gatherings and Nadia would watch the Kasbah come to life, eager to see what the various uncles, aunties and cousins would bring for the dinner table, her mouth watering in expectation. Would it be Auntie Jamileh's meat pizzas, or Musakhan - a delicious dish of roasted chicken, onion and spices u or Mansaf, a magnificent celebratory meat and yogurt dish? Emotions, moods, flavours, aromas and relationships all are totally blended within Nadia's family, and this inherited approach to food forms the backbone of her book. All the recipes have either been passed down from generations of brilliant cooks, or created by Nadia for her own family and friends. Every single dish has already been heartily enjoyed at her own kitchen table.
Here, Nadia presents a kind of '1001 Arabian Bites', with a thousand other influences thrown in. Just by opening the pages of this book, you will feel as though you've been invited to one of the noisiest, tastiest and most entertaining family meals around.
