A lover of Shakespeare, exotic plants and women, Blain meets his match when riots break out at Strangeways. Journalists and members of the public flock to his house for a front-row seat at the riots, but Blain is quick to turn this to his advantage. A passionate affair with a reporter brings spectres of past loves back to Blain, and his garden begins to yield its secrets.
