The Diary of a Record-Breaking Year
This is Australian cricket captain Steve Waugh's seventh diary and covers an extraordinary 12 months of cricket, from the Australians' trip to Sri Lanka in August 1999, through to the revolutionary indoor one-day series against South Africa at Melbourne's Colonial Stadium.
During this period, Waugh's team established new Australian records for consecutive victories in Test and one-day international cricket. Here he explains what makes his team so special. He recalls famous matches and notable incidents, and pays tribute to the great wicketkeeper, Ian Healy, now retired, and to the amazing Shane Warne, who became Australia's greatest ever wicket-taker.
As well, he looks at some of the controversies plaguing cricket in the 21st century, including bribery and match-fixing, throwing, the physical demands on the game's elite and whether the game's great traditions are being sacrificed in the chase for the almighty dollar.
Supported by a superb array of photographs and a comprehensive statistics section, this is a magnificent insight into the world of cricket, the Australian cricket team and what sets the Australian captain apart.
