Steve Price is a charismatic and hugely respected leader in the Rugby League community. A 15 season veteran he has represented Australia in 10 Tests and has played 23 State of Origin matches for his beloved Queensland. His recall to the 2008 Queensland Origin squad for game two contributed to Queensland turning around their demoralising defeat in game one to win the series 2 ? 1. In 2007 he earned a much deserved recall to the Kangaroos, where he again performed with distinction in their huge victory of the Kiwis.
Before going to the Auckland Warriors he was captain and stalwart of the Canterbury Bulldogs during one of their most controversial periods including the salary cap breach and then the Coffs Harbour sex scandal. During this time he won the respect of the fans, the media and his peers? for the dignified way he dealt with these issues even though he and the club were under constant scrutiny.
Recognised as arguably the finest prop in the world?s toughest rugby league competition, he is attributed with the current turnaround of the Auckland Warriors. Now widely acknowledged as perhaps the Warriors best ever ?buy?, Prices influence on the battling club cannot be underestimated. After struggling with injury in 2005, his first season with the Warriors, Price bounced back in 2006 and 2007. His form in 2007 coincided with the Warriors best season in the NRL for years as they made the playoffs for the first time since 2003.
In 2008 he is likely to achieve the rare feat of playing 300 NRL first grade games. Price is admired right across the Australasian NRL family.
