English soccer legend Stanley Matthews completed this autobiography just prior to his death in February 2000. Known as the gentleman of soccer, he captained England for 54 internationals and is regarded as being the man responsible for the rise of English soccer during the 1950s and 1960s.
He vividly brings to life some of football's greatest ever matches, offering absorbing personal accounts of the game's legendary players. His memorable performance in the FA Cup final of 1953, arguably the greatest of them all, inspired Blackpool's comeback. He was there when the England team had to give the Nazi salute in Berlin in 1938 and at the Burnden Park disaster of 1946 - events that have transcended football and become part of British history.
