The Photographs of Frank Hurley.
'South With Endurance' presents photographer Frank Hurley's amazing record of the Endurance's dramatic expedition to Antarctica, 1912-17. This is the complete collection of surviving photographs from the expedition and it creates a history in photographs of an event of lasting significance.
They range from the ordinary to the extraordinary - evocative photographs of the Antarctic landscape, life on board the 'Endurance', the 'Endurance' trapped in the packed ice, and finally the rescue.
It is the first book to reproduce all expedition photographs, approximately 500, including Hurley's remarkable colour Paget plates. It includes a biography of this important and under-rated pioneer of photography and a critical appraisal of Hurley's place in the history of photography.
