'Slice Of Heaven' is the true story of the Thomas family – Martin, Jenifer and their four young children – who, after the brutal murder of Martin's father and brother in Wellington, decide to leave their home in New Zealand, to live in the heart of the Italian countryside.
After buying and transforming an old schoolhouse into an enchanting villa, and living in Italy for several years, their next move is to the tropics – where they buy an idyllic island in Central America, off the coast of Nicaragua. The island is deserted, home only to a rare species of turtles. Only months after their arrival, a small eco-hotel has taken shape on Little Eden, as has a new baby.
When Martin and Jenifer receive and accept a tempting offer for their newly finished island retreat, they pack for the next move, now as a family of five. This time it is back to the mainland of Europe, to a diminutive but perfectly formed chateau in the South of France.
'A Slice Of Heaven' is a positive inspiring story, although not without tragedy, drama, and hassles. The book is about their 'adventures' and experiences as they move around the world. It covers the trials, tribulations and rewards of moving to foreign countries, buying and renovating property and the challenges of achieving their plans with five young children, the eldest just nine, and the youngest just two months old (in June 2004).
