The story of a champion: a man with a passion for football and family.
Silvagni. The mere mention of the name evokes indelible images of the Carlton Football Club, for whom AFL's greatest ever father-son combination so gloriously plied its craft.
For more than 40 years, the Silvagni name has been a part of the Carlton vernacular - from 1958, when Sergio made his senior debut, through to Stephen's retirement in September 2001. By the time the sinewy, spring-heeled Stephen turned out for his first senior appearance against the Swans in 1985, the 17 year old had already inherited the potentially burdensome nickname of 'SOS' - 'Son of Serge'.
But it mattered little for the kid in his old man's No. 1 guernsey, who, for the next 17 seasons, eked out his own glorious career - encompassing more than 300 senior appearances, two Grand Final triumphs, and of course 'Full-Back of the 20th Century' status.
Stephen's story, with all its highs and lows, is told in detail to long-time Carlton supporter Tony De Bolfo, who spent much of his 18 years as a football writer, reporting the Stephen's on-field feats. This book, Stephen's biography, is testament to a truly outstanding player and an undisputed Carlton legend.
