Kevin Sheedy is full of surprises. For one thing, he is an old-fashioned Australian patriot with some very modern, international ideas. He is all for the family, the Australian team, but also for motivation, and he makes huge allowances for individual talents. With him, the end does not justify the means, but it goes close, particularly if it means survival. He will forgive people he trusts, family or team members, practically anything if he thinks their motives are good.
Winning isn't everything, not if you do your best, but by golly, you'd better. Sheeds doesn't swear, but he makes his feelings felt. His "look-you-in-the-eye" speaks volumes. He admires champions at anything - they are his idols he admits - but has sympathy for losers, particularly young losers, even when he doesn't understand them.
