A Life of Colette
2 Cassettes read by Rebecca Front
From her first appearance in Paris salons as a child bride in 1900, Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette fascinated, scandalised and enraptured all of France. With her first novels, the bestselling 'Claudines', she breathed eroticism into the teenage girl. Four decades later, she was still seducing the public with masterpieces like 'Gigi'. After her scandalous literary debut, she enjoyed an equally scandalous stage career, including of course the infamous baring of her breast in a French music-hall.
Colette was also the first woman to report from the front lines of World War I. In her private life, she seduced her stepson and enjoyed a wild and notorious lesbian affair.
