Historically the homeland of seafaring Viking warriors, Scandinavia today is a colourful mixture of diverse cultures and languages. This entertaining and educational paper doll collection depicts traditional garb worn by the inhabitants of this vast region: the folk costumes of Norway, Finland, Iceland, Sweden, Denmark, and Greenland. Artist Kathy Allert has created a wardrobe of 32 distinctive outfits and accompanying accessories for two engaging paper dolls. Charmingly rendered in accurate detail, the garments include an Icelandic folk-dancing costume, Finnish Lapp apparel with unusual ""four winds"" hats, Swedish Lapp summer outfits, warm winter clothing and decorative boots from Greenland, a Danish bridal costume with a floral crown, typical Norwegian clothing, including an elaborate bridal ensemble enhanced by distinctive Hardanger embroidery and much more. A map showing countries and regions represented by the costumes introduces youngsters to the geography of Scandinavia. Dolls are printed on the cover flap on sturdy laminated stock; costumes appear on lightweight paper for easy cutting.
