The First Solo Voyage Around the World
This is Captain Joshua Slocum's famous account of his epic journey - the first solo voyage around the world. Born in Nova Scotia in 1844, Joshua Slocum had been a seafarer from a very early age and by the age of 25 was already a successful commander. But following the death of his wife from cholera and the loss of his barque, "Aquidnek", which represented his total worth in the world, he was left with nothing. But rather than crumble, he rebuilt a shipwreck with his own hands and turned it into an ocean going vessel, thereby creating his beloved "Spray". He sailed out of Boston harbour on 24 April 1895, at the age of 52, on his voyage alone around the world. By turns thrilling, moving, terrifying and exhilarating this magical book tells the story of that incredible voyage.
