A Way to God - Christian Exercises in Eastern Form.
"Sadhana" is an Indian word rich in meaning, each of which illuminates the others; such as discipline, a technique, spiritual exercises, and one's own personal means for approaching God. This book presents many such exercises helpful toward leading us into prayer and explains them in a practical way.
Father de Mello teaches us how to pray, though a series of practical exercises drawn from the tradition of the Church, the 'Spiritual Exercises' of St Ignatius, oriental techniques stemming ultimately from sources such as yoga or Zen Buddhism, and modern psychology. The book contains awareness exercises, fantasy exercises, and exercises in devotional prayer.
As a native of India, Father de Mello is culturally equipped to understand Oriental religionists, their mentality, and their procedures. As a Jesuit, his own spirituality and prayer are guided by his studies in Scripture, systematic theology, and spiritual theology. All these experiences come together in 'Sadhana' and aid those of us endeavoring to acquire an art of praying.
