The Cambridge Contexts in Literature series is designed for advanced level students of English literature. Each title in the series has the quality, content and level endorsed by the OCR examination board. However, the texts provide the background and focus suitable for any examination board at advanced level. The literary, historical and social contexts are explored in each title and students are encouraged to investigate varying interpretations of the text. Romanticism looks at aspects such as political context, Romantic feminism and Romantic attitudes to nature, before approaching textual characteristics and critical insights and investigating opposing figures such as Coleridge and Mary Shelley. The wealth of texts included range from Paine's The Rights of Man, through Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Byron and Shelley to Hannah More and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. The influence of Freud and Marx on Romantic texts is discussed and information about useful ICT resources is provided.
