In September 1965, a nineteen-year-old photographer in London named Gered Mankowitz received a phone call asking if he wanted to accompany the Rolling Stones on their American tour the next month. The assignment: Photograph everything the up-and-coming Stones did in America. Mankowitz continued photographing the Stones throughout the sixties, documenting their ongoing success and shooting album covers for the seminal albums Decembers Children and Between the Buttons. His endeavors resulted in this astounding, candid collection of photographs of the young Stones and their rise to international fame.
