On Christmas Eve 1801, a thirty-year-old Cornish engineer took a few of his
friends for a ride on his latest invention. It was a significant event in
19th century history for it was the world's first steam locamotive. Yet when
he died 32 years later, it was in poverty and relative obscurity.
