My Autobiography
From his first starring role in 'Just William' to the huge TV successes with 'The Sweeney' and 'Minder', Dennis Waterman has an amazing theatrical career, which he has also combined with an equally dramatic love life.
Born in 1948 to a sprawling South London family (his brother Peter was British and European welterweight champion, one of his sisters ran away at 16 to become a Bluebell girl in Paris), Dennis Waterman failed his 11 plus, and went to drama school instead, with people like Francesca Annis and Susan George.
Aged 12, he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford. 'The Sweeney' and 'Minder' made him famous, but he has also starred in musicals and films, produced and starred in 'The Captain's Table' and played football at Wembley with Bobby Moore and George Best.
There were affairs with Suzy Kendall and Romy Schneider, and some failed marriages, the last being with Rula Lenska. Now, fifty-plus, Waterman wants to tell the story of his rumbustious, action-packed life.
