'Ready to Read' is a series of reading books designed to encourage and develop the confidence of young readers between the ages of five and seven. They are aimed at children who can read a little, but who need lively and structured books to help them develop their skills further.
Using familiar tales, the fun texts complement the child's more formal learning. Current developments in the teaching of reading, writing and speaking guide the text and are behind the range of activities at the end of each book.
At the end of each book a range of activities reinforces the words learned in the book. A "ready to tell" section encourages children to rearrange episodes from the story and increase confidence by retelling it. Picture dictionary pages illustrate more difficult words and present key words in context. A "Who's Who" spread encourages children to think about the characters in the story, and helps them develop their ability to describe people and things.
