This publication focuses on two master artists, Bagta and his son Chokha, who worked first for the prestigious court of the Maharanas of Udaipur before they became involved with the rawats of Devgarh in the second half of the 18th century and 19th century respectively. Due to new materials which have recently been found in the Devgarh collection and which are published here for the first time, Beach's study helps us to understand better this highly distinctive school of painting.
