The Search For A Killer Puts Truth Itself On Trial
There is trouble in the mountain valley in Maryland where attorney Gardner Lawson practises. A mysterious religious cult has arrived, settling in an abandoned granite quarry deep in the hills.
Known as CAIN (for Church of the Ark, Incorporated), this fanatical group attracts media attention after an elderly black man dies in unusual circumstances. The dead man's son is police detective Joseph Brown, who's convinced that CAIN was responsible and begins secret investigations. When the CAIN leader is also found dead, Brownie becomes the prime suspect for murder. Gardner Lawson now decides to resign as State's Attorney in order to conduct his close friend's defence.
Lawson's subsequent inquiries and a high-tension trial compel many to confront their innate prejudices - and force hidden secrets out of the shadows.
