A man is murdered at York races. A local resident is worried by a stalker who is issuing death threats but he doesn't go to the police, for fear his own dark secret will be exposed. When two more bodies are discovered, apparently murdered in the same fashion, pressure mounts on newly promoted DI Ian Peterson and his team to solve the high profile case and quickly.
With a demented killer still at large and all the earlier suspects eliminated, the investigation seems to be going nowhere. But the killer is following the investigation far more keenly than Ian realises and time is running out as the case suddenly gets a lot closer to home...
