A retired cop and a couple of unlikely allies race against time to stop a psycho-loner intent on blowing up thousands... Stephen King is on a roll, this time with the heart-pounding suspense that he does best.

A cat-and-mouse suspense thriller featuring a retired homicide detective who's haunted by the few cases he left open, and by one in particular - the pre-dawn slaughter of eight people among hundreds gathered in line for the opening of a jobs fair when the economy was guttering out. Without warning, a lone driver ploughed through the crowd in a stolen Mercedes. The plot is kicked into gear when Bill Hodges receives a letter in the mail, from a man claiming to be the perpetrator. He taunts Hodges with the notion that he will strike again. Hodges wakes up from his depressed and vacant retirement, hell-bent on preventing that from happening.

Brady Hartfield lives with his alcoholic mother in the house where he was born. And he's preparing to kill again. Only Hodges, with a couple of misfit friends, can apprehend the killer in this high-stakes race against time. Because Brady's next mission, if it succeeds, will kill or maim hundreds, even thousands...

Mr Mercedes
Although this is a different style of King than the one we are all used to, I was hooked from the first sentence! A must read for all Stephen King fans (like me) and perfect for general crime and thriller lovers. You won't be disappointed. Reviewed by 30ti

Mr Mercedes
Stephen King does it again! What do I mean by that? Let me tell you. The reason I love Mr. King is because of his characters. I believe that his characterizations are what makes his books so special and popular. This book is no exception. We have Bill Hodges, retired police detective. We have a horribly warped young man in Brady. We have a wonderful young man in Jerome, and a few other memorable characters like Holly, a middle-aged woman with severe OCD and other issues, like her bitchy, money hungry mother. So, why only 4 stars you ask It's because I found the plot to be unbelievable in one certain aspect. With certain writers or books, I can overlook this, but in this book, I could not. To me, it was just too far out of the realm of possibility that certain steps were not taken. That's really the only problem I had with this novel. I found it to be a lot of fun, well paced, and it had an excellent ending. Reviewed by Julie Skinner

He's Done It Again
Mr King is a many of many talents, obviously. In what the media have dubbed his first attempt at the crime genre but what true fans will actually recognise as his second after Joyland, King creates a merciless killer and a dedicated hero. A stellar crime novel that possess all the tame suspense Mr King has cultivated late in his career. Another brilliant novel.
