An epic, richly inventive, historically sweeping, magical romance.

When historian Diana Bishop opens an alchemical manuscript in the Bodleian Library, it's an unwelcome intrusion of magic into her carefully ordered life. Though Diana is a witch of impeccable lineage, the violent death of her parents while she was still a child convinced her that human fear is more potent than any witchcraft. Now Diana has unwittingly exposed herself to a world she's kept at bay for years; one of powerful witches, creative, destructive daemons and long-lived vampires.

Sensing the significance of Diana's discovery, the creatures gather in Oxford, among them the enigmatic Matthew Clairmont, a vampire geneticist. Diana is inexplicably drawn to Matthew and, in a shadowy world of half-truths and old enmities, ties herself to him without fully understanding the ancient line they are crossing. As they begin to unlock the secrets of the manuscript and their feelings for each other deepen, so the fragile balance of peace unravels...

Loved it
Once I started I couldn't put it down. So much detail amazing writing one of the best books I have ever read.

Untitled
This book has easily become my favourite book series. Deborah Harkness has captivated the reader with magic, and history and adventure. The Main character Diana is a scholar who denies magic to find an alchemical text that is magical. She then finds herself on a journey of discovering the meaning of the magical text and running for her life and avoiding danger. - Alissha (QBD)

Mature fantasy
This gives me the feel I would get from reading young adult fantasy, but with more mature and relatable characters now that I'm older. Addicted.

A Discovery of Witches
A Discovery of Witches is the first book in the All Souls series by American author Deborah Harkness. Full of adventure, romance and of course magic, this epic tale falls nothing short of incredible. Harkness writes with the ease and skill of one blessed with a natural talent. Reviewed by 01jl
