Brandon Sanderson's epic fantasy trilogy overturns the expectations of readers and then goes on to tell the story of evil overturned in a richly imagined world.

A thousand years ago evil came to the land and has ruled with an iron fist ever since. The sun shines fitfully under clouds of ash that float down endlessly from the constant eruption of volcanoes. A dark lord rules through the aristocratic families and ordinary folk are condemned to lives in servitude, sold as goods, labouring in the ash fields. But now a troublemaker has arrived and there is rumour of revolt.

A revolt that depends on a criminal that no-one can trust and a young girl who must master Allomancy - the magic that lies in all metals.

Absolutely amazing. An epic tale of hardship, spirit and rebellion. Beautifully written, action packed. No one does world building quite like Sanderson. A must for any fantasy lover, you will not regret reading this series. Who knew metal bending could be so cool? - Brittany (QBD)

The Final Empire is part heist novel, part high fantasy adventure. Brandon Sanderson brings together a cast of dynamic characters, a setting full of deep history and intrigue, and one of the best magic systems I’ve ever seen in print to create a unique, amazing adventure. Allomancy, the primary magic system in Mistborn, allows the user to burn metals as fuel to gain limited super powers. Most magic users, called Mistings, are only capable of using one kind of metal, but the rare Mistborn have total command over all metals. Sanderson lays out the rules for magic early, and doesn’t deviate from them, allowing him to explore the full potential of these powers through the book. It's this magic system, the diverse and three dimensional cast and Sanderson's fantastically unique world that takes Mistborn from the realm of the average fantasy novel, and makes it something exceptional. - Emma (QBD)

There are many ways to describe this book; an epic fantasy, a heist novel, a revenge tale or a coming of age story. I prefer fan-freaking-tastic! Sanderson's magic systems are some of the best around and serve the book's action perfectly. A great entry point to his books, all of which haven't disappointed. - Jai (QBD)

Harry Potter had maintained the spot of my favourite book series of all time since I was a young kid... Then I read this book! Even after all the fantasy reading I have done since, nothing has gripped me as much as the Mistborn Series. Sanderson's mind has to be a fascinating place; his large cast of characters are deep, interesting and all maintain a solid level of individualism. The world is dark, twisted and exciting, and the metal based magic is so unique. But, most importantly, the story is gripping and unpredictable. The books have everything you could want; epic action, friendship, love, loss, mystery; and Sanderson's writing is so fluid that it's just too easy to get lost in the story he is telling. I could not recommend this book more, and, if it's any reassurance to you, I've yet to have a customer take it home and not return within the week for the rest of the books!! - Megan (QBD)

Final Empire
Categorised as an epic fantasy series, The Final Empire is just that: EPIC! Set in a world more oppressive than The Hunger Games, with an evil antagonist more indestructible than He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, a magic system like no other will keep you turning the pages until the very end. There are definitely some deeper themes at play here, but all the seriousness is intertwined with very lovable characters, humour and... honestly, this magic system is awesome! For lovers of fantasy (and even for those who don't!) Brandon Sanderson is a must read! - Don
