Saving Francesca Part 1
You can keep John Green, for my money in YA lit, there's one name that counts Melina Marchetta. Saving Francesca is one of her best. I loved it at sixteen as I enter my mid 20's there's still a place in my heart for this uplifting title. As reviewed by 42BJ

Saving Francesca PART 2
Francesca is sixteen, in her 1st term at a school that's just started taking girls, an overwhelming new environment filled with boys who consider farting in public a badge of honour. To make things worse, her mother sinks into depression, making her home life as alien as her school. For the first time in her life with no one to define herself by, she has to decide the person she wants to be. She finds friendships romance with characters so well drawn you'll wish they were real. The dialogue feels true and the emotions perfectly conveyed by Marchetta, an Australian author who writes with a rare skill.Saving Francesca is at turns funny, heartbreaking poignant. It'll leave you with an ache in your chest, the feeling you get when you come across something special. Its a book not just to be read, but to be treasured and reread until the pages come loose. Or maybe that's just my copy. As reviewed by 42BJ
