In sixteen-year-old Beatrice Prior's world, society is divided into five factions - Abnegation (the selfless), Candor (the honest), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent) - each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue, in the attempt to form a "perfect society." At the age of sixteen, teens must choose the faction to which they will devote their lives.

On her Choosing Day, Beatrice renames herself Tris, rejects her family's Abnegation faction, and chooses Dauntless, the faction of daredevils and adrenaline junkies whose lives are devoted to courageousness and chasing out weakness. After surviving a brutal initiation, Tris finds romance with a super-hot, super-fearless Dauntless boy named Tobias, but also discovers unrest and growing conflict in their seemingly "perfect society." To survive and save those they love, Tris and Tobias must use their strengths to uncover the truths about their identities, their families, and the order of their society itself.

This series is what really peaked my interest in the dystopian genre. I found the moral of this extraordinary story is to not let society try and force you to change who you truly are. This book demonstrates to its readers to be aware of the corrupt and crumbling world around us and inspires us as humans to stand up and fight for our country. This story demonstrates how one person can make a difference in this world. This is such as inspiring novel. - Shenae (QBD)

Growing up and making mistakes is all part of the journey for Tris. Switching from abnegation to Dauntless, Tris has to trust her instincts and fight for her survival. But she’s not in it alone. Divergent
Written in first person, by the character, Beatrice Tris Prior, Divergent explores her identity within a society that classifies its citizens by their social and personality-related association among five factions. Underlying action as the focused main plot, there is a romantic subplot between Tris and one of her trainers in the dauntless faction, Tobias Four Eaton. Terrible things happen to the people Tris loves, yet the characters absorb these events with disturbing ease. Here, somehow, the novel's flights from reality distance the reader from the emotional impact that might come in a more affecting realistic novel. Though there is violence within the novel, Tris always came through and figured how to come to solution with or without fear aside violence. This book has a very great story line compared to other books I have read in this genre, and the authors style was humorous, serious, casual and formal. Divergent
There's different ways I can approach this review... I can go on about the characters, and the writing and everything in between. But I'm not. All I'm going to say is if I finished it in 2 days it's one hell of a great book. As reviewed by Fatima Kassira.

If you like The Hunger Games....
These books and their concepts of factions invaded my dreams. If you liked Hunger Games then get yourself a copy of Divergent because this will be right up your alley. This dystopian future is literally haunting. Veronica covers many of those agonising teenage-puberty-coming of age questions as Tris has to make decisions about her future and what her path through life should be. The harsh reality of her choice hits the reader pretty hard. Something I particularly liked was the fact that Tris's choices are basically choosing between right and wrong. Somehow Tris finds herself playing a major role in the events unfolding in her twisted and segregated society and she has to make some hard life decisions and though she has her struggles and challenges, at the end of the day she isn't precious about it and she gets it done.

Divergent
Starts off with similarity to 'The Hunger Games' - a dystopian world with 5 regions who provide separate elements for the economy and a female protagonist, though here the similarities end. The book is amazing, well written though simple to read it keeps you hanging on for more and I read the entire thing in an afternoon as I couldn't put it down. You want to know what happens to Tris and how she will cope with the next challenge thrown her way. She is a heroic female that also has her weaknesses, almost the 'everywoman', trying to cope with the struggles of growing up along with the initiation rituals of the new faction she has chosen.
