Eleanor Blake, distraught and humiliated from the recent break-up from her fiancé, Will, has decided to secretly follow him, and his new girlfriend, on their summer holiday to the Aeolian island of Panarea in the hope that it will help her accept rejection and move one with her life.
Amid the high-octane glamour and natural beauty of the island Eleanor should be the first person to suspect that things are not as they seem when she finds herself befriending Frannie, an actress on the brink of success and a head turning beauty of truly invincible charm. And she is all too easily swept up by the holiday scene at the Albergo della Rose where the guests include young archaeologist Lewis Mcintyre, who attracts and confuses Eleanor in equal measures.
What follows is the turmoil and comedy of unexpected friendships and passions, culminating in a final, drama-filled confrontation between Eleanor and Will.
