Three fairly normal 12-year-old students are recruited to take part in a war in an alternative universe.
Garth has never been a leader at anything. Nobody listens to him, he never gets invited to parties. He gets pushed around by his parents. But in the alternative universe, he's an important leader, which is a blessing and a curse.
Lucy's only concern is getting the girl's school soccer team going. She has some leadership experience, though her people skills need work. She is abrupt, rude, often acidic. As a space squadron leader, however, she quickly learns that her temper can cost lives - including her own.
For Arnold, this adventure couldn't come at a worse time. He's used to be a truant, but has straightened up. His school grades are good, his relationship with his parents is good and his teachers don't pick on him anymore. This will throw a huge spanner in the works.
