'Pilgrim's Progress' tells the inspirational story of Christian and his unique spiritual pilgrimage from the City of Destruction to the Celestial City. On his journey he experiences joy, struggle, temptation and danger during his memorable encounters with such characters as Pliable, Talkative, Giant Despair, Worldly-Wiseman, Evangelist, Apollyon, Faithful, Hopeful and Ignorance. A literary masterpiece, it has also fulfilled Bunyan's hope of encouraging and teaching fellow-Christians on their own spiritual pilgrimage.

John Bunyan (1628-88) started work as a tinker but later became a preacher. As a Puritan, he was arrested for holding open-air "non-conformist" worship services and spent twelve years in Bedford Jail. It was there that 'Pilgrim's Progress' among other works was written.
